In our current economic, cultural, and political environment, it is easy to become anxious and full of fear.

Today, many Western political leaders are systematically destroying their entire economies through poor financial policies.

Western culture has become obsessed with overconsumption, death, violence, and a myriad of other issues.

And the utter corruption that flows through our entire political process seems to be tearing apart everything that we hold dear.

But… there is hope.

In fact, the turmoil in our world today provides those, who place their belief and trust in God’s Word, with more answers than questions.

Why is there so much political, economic, and cultural strife today? Because of man’s futile and failed attempts to rule himself. From the dawn of creation, mankind has been in desperate need of God’s rulership.

But instead, at the Fall of humanity in the Garden, man opted for self-rule.

Today, we are experiencing the fruit of mankind’s desperate attempts to rule himself.

In HIs Word, God promises a harvest of misery for those who misplace their trust in man and his various faulty empires.

“This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes the flesh his strength and turns his heart from the LORD. He will be like a shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.” (Jeremiah 17:5,6)

So too, God instructs His chosen people to take refuge in Him rather than man.

“It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.” (Psalm 118:8)

and

“Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in their abundance of chariots and in their multitude of horsemen. They do not look to the Holy One of Israel; they do not seek the LORD.” (Isaiah 31:1)

6,000 years of recorded history have documented man’s failure at self-rule.

We are like sheep without a shepherd until we encounter the risen Christ.

Indeed, our failed attempts at self-rule are proof of at least two things.

One, that what God says about man in the Bible is true.

And two, it is proof that we need Christ.

God’s answer to our problems is His unshakeable Kingdom.

We seek a city that is not on this earth.

The elect are pilgrims and sojourners on this earth.

The elect heed God’s Word over man’s word.

And they seek the kingdom of God over the kingdom of men.

“Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness…”  (Matthew 6:33 KJV)
